Why do cabin crew keep their arms behind their back when greeting passengers?

If you are a regular passenger then you may have noticed that when you board a plane you will be greeted by a member of cabin crew standing there with their arms behind their back.

Well it’s time that we at Altitude Flights shared this secret with you and explained the reason for this.

Basically, it’s very simple, before take off the crew need to count the number of passengers that board their service. This happens either when the passengers board the flight or when the passengers have sat down. In the later situation the cabin crew given the task would walk down the aisle, again with their hands behind their back.

The crew use a special counter for this purpose and they keep it behind their back in order not to draw attention to their task in hand.
